I attended a beer dinner last night! Beer and food are awesome together. Pizza & beer, game over! BBQ & beer, sign me up!! Tacos & beer, absolutely!!!
That's why last night was a little bit of a disappointment! To surmise: Don't over-think the room!!! Each of the beers was a little thin, and didn't have a complete aspect to any of the parts. I wasn't into the poor execution of thinly crafted 'artisan' beer. Aspects of each beer were acceptable, but they were not by any stretch of the imagination perfect, or even desirable.
The dinner part wasn't bad actually! I'd prefer to have had the spicy aspects with Gewurztraminer, but some of the preparations required CDP or an Hermitage for good measure.
Following this it was time for some real beer! Blind Pig, a wicked Imperial Stout & Chimay all fit the bill. This was followed by my favorite at home: Dogfish Head! Game over!

Good Stuff!!!
Last night I had some delicious chicken & it had a spicy underbelly! My first thought was "hot..." second involved some combination of the word "awesome" plus "LET'S INTRODUCE THIS WINE!!!" For me it was a painfully average Gewurztraminer from Monterey. I won't name a certain one, but I dream of moving there to create an Alsatian dream! I'm retired & tired, so goo is happening anywhere!!!

A Treatise to Day Drinking!
Yesterday was a proficient day in the Drinks of the Moment world. The morning started with incredible bacon & eggs combined with my Alsatian Gewurztraminer love & an interesting one from Anderson Valley. I say interesting for the fact that it actually drank like a Riesling! No joke, it tasted like petrol & didn't have the slightest hint of roses or honeycomb. The best part was the ubiquitous Southern California sunshine & overall perfection of the morning.
After this the adventure led to Bev Mo to seek the remains of Dogfish Head Punkin Ale. Sadly, no luck! Alas, the journey followed to my favorite location for outdoor drinking at my favorite patio. From there over to SD Brew Co. for their lovely Octoberfest beer & a Stone 10.10.10 which was an absolute revelation when enjoyed on tap.
Defeated in the initial pursuit of Dogfish goodness I ventured back to my trusty friends above & pulled one of my remaining 4 packs, and enjoyed the heck out of one. Oh, and a 1978 Pichon-Baron to close the evening still a lot of life, and abundant character that kicked minimal sediment with ample flavor & aromatic complexity....
I like me some retirement!

Let's Get This Started!
Be honest (put that honest cap on posthaste)....
Is ONE drink ever enough? The answer is a resounding NO! In fact I put the NO in ONE! Coincidence, I think possibly....
So, I started making a bloody mary this morning, but really wanted to recreate the Alsatian Gewurztraminer brilliance that I encountered last night. That wine is Domaine Zind Humbrecht just in case you were wondering. It is kind of my lady friend of the moment. We're living through some ill repute here, I'm not going to lie...
As I was opining over that bottle the immediate decision was made to have both! I finished making the bloody mary (recipe below) and got the corkscrew out faster than I care to mention. Bing-bang-boom Gewurzt & bloody mary awesome! Those are my drinks of the moment.
In the immortal words of Floyd Mayweather Jr: "Step Yo Game UP!" Get on board, let's rock it two at a time. Doublefisting is a way of life! Brother!
